What is a TCG?

Online Trading Card Games are similar to the trading cards most of us knew as children. Rather than playing in person and collecting cards from packs bought at the store, you collect everything online. The goal is to collect all of the cards in a deck you like, also know as mastering it. Online TCGs are free to play, a lot of fun, and very addictive! Interested in joining? Check out the rest of this section before moving on to the join form!

What is Anthology?

Anthology is a mini-TCG with a puzzle template and a manga and light novel cover theme, which means that you can collect all your favorite manga covers by putting together the 15 puzzle cards that make up a deck! Each puzzle is made up of a particular volume of a manga series or light novel series, but one shots and one volume works are also featured. There are special decks that feature illustrations from different artbooks. The name Anthology was chosen by its association with serialization magazines which is where manga chapters are published before their book form release. New cards will be released every 2 weeks and the update day will be Sundays. There will be updates weekly even in weeks where no cards are released.

How is Anthology different from most TCGs out there?

As a mini-TCG, Anthology will not have many activities and options that most TCGs have. For example, due to the specific nature of the covers and the quality that I want to ensure, players won't be able to donate images for deck types, but they will be able to suggest which decks they would like to see featured next and I will definitely give these priority. Besides this, Anthology will not have a forum or forum activities. I want to keep it simple and just have email forms in order to make the work minimum, but still enjoy the game with trading and collecting. In the beginning there won't be a shop for card packs or choice cards, though that is subject to change in the future.

So what will players be able to do besides playing games and trading?

I will definitely appreciate your contribution with suggestions regarding which decks to make and which decks to release next. There will be rewards and badges given for number of trades made and number of decks mastered and we will call these achievements and milestones. I am also considering badges for series if you complete a number of decks from it in the future.

Achievements and Milestones

You may claim trading achievements every 25 cards traded (member cards count towards your total trade number!) and they accumulate, meaning that as you claim more, you will receive badges that will display your total number of claimed milestones. Due to the nature of this activity players must have either numbered trades in their logs or the total number of trades done somewhere visible in their card post. You will get the badge below with the appropriate number of trades as well as 3 random puzzle cards per each achievement that you claim. You will also get 1 puzzle choice card in multiples of a hundred.

You will also be able to claim mastered deck milestones! They will be separated by deck type and rewards will vary as well. Puzzle deck milestones are claimed every 5 puzzle deck masteries. You will get 5 random puzzle cards per each puzzle masteries milestone claimed. Special deck milestones are claimed every 3 special deck masteries. You will get 4 random puzzle cards per each special masteries milestones claimed. You will also get either of the badges below according to the mastery type and the number you're claiming.

Card Types

In Anthology we have three card types that you can receive and trade with other players. There are puzzle cards that make up regular decks and are worth 1. Each regular deck has 15 puzzle pieces.

Besides that there are special cards that make up a special deck. Each special deck has 10 cards and they are also worth 1 towards your card count.

Players also get a member card they can trade with other players. Member card trades count as 1 card trade, but the member cards themselves have a worth of 0 towards your card count. You get an unlimited amount of copies of your member card.

Trade Post

Before you join, you need a place to store and display your stuff, also know as a trade post. To make life easier for you and for your fellow TCG members, you should separate your cards into categories of at least keeping and trading. You are also required to keep a detailed card log, showing how you got every card you own. The final thing you need on your site is a way to contact you, either a form or an email link, so other players can trade you. Having your post on Livejournal, Dreamwidth or other blog sites is also acceptable.

Levels & Level Ups

When you join Anthology, you begin at level one and work your way up through the levels. The requirements for each level are posted here. The rewards for leveling up are 1 puzzle piece of choice, 2 random puzzle cards, and 1 random special card.

After level 20 (7000+), players will be able to claim a choice card every 500 cards, but they won't have more levels available to climb to.

Mastering

Once you have collecting all of the cards in a deck and filled out the form to make it official, you have mastered the deck. This means you cannot trade away any of these cards (except for doubles, of course) but you will receive some rewards for doing so as well as a master badge to prove it. For every puzzle deck you master, you receive 2 puzzle pieces of choice, 2 random regular cards, and 1 random special card. For every special deck you master, you receive special card of choice, 3 random regular cards, and 1 random special card.

Mini-Mastery

Considering the amount of special cards in the randomizer, I tried to think of an alternative for players who were not interested in collecting them or had already collected some and kept getting the same cards. A mini-mastery in Anthology will be a mastery that you will be able to get with just 5 special cards. As rewards, you will get 4 random regular cards and 1 random special. You will also get a custom badge so you can choose which image will be featured in your mini-mastery badge. The ones below are just examples:

There will be a new mini-mastery theme featured monthly. You will have only one month to trade the 5 cards you need for it and all cards will have to represent the theme used. As time passes we will introduce new themes (like specific colors or duo, for example) and we will also re-use past themes (for example, using solo girl 2). Further rules on images that can be featured and what fits a theme can be found in the mini-master form page.
